Course Description

This course seeks to introduce students to the use of computer to generate images appropriate for various graphic design projects by relying on software. A version of one of the following software will be studied for the purpose: Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator.

Duration: 6 Months

Course Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Apply basic design principles to present ideas, information, products, and services in a creative visual manner.
  2. Have fundamental technical skills, knowledge, and abilities in graphic design.
  3. Demonstrate adherence to professional graphic design industry standards.

Course Content

  • Introduction to the computer and the selected software
  • Tools and processes associated/needed to create meaningful design concepts.
  • Will display a working knowledge of the concepts by completing several computer-based projects using templates provided.
  • Will use illustration and related software to illustrate, design and refine projects.
  • Understand and use the design software process.
  • Generate, analyse, edit and refine concepts.
  • Develop dynamic unified marks.
  • Develop creative and conceptualised designs.

Mode of Delivery

The course will be delivered through lectures, discussions and practical works which will be conducted in studio setting within and outside university premises.
