Course Description
This course seeks to introduce students to the history, basic concepts, terminology, and applications of digital photography. Creative approaches emphasize successful transformation of images for effective visual communication. Students will get an overview of photography. They will learn the basic tools they need to shoot photography as a communication designer, and how communication designers work with professional photographers. They will be introduced to pixel-based graphic design software programme, such as Adobe Lightroom.

Course Objectives
The course intends to:
- Demonstrate artistry by creating images that evoke an emotional response.
- Apply the principles of composition, lighting and colour theory to a variety of photographic scenarios by measuring, evaluating, and adjusting light and colour to create quality images.
- Apply the mechanics of exposure to control light and influence the final product.
- Select and use photographic equipment and technologies appropriate to the task.
Course Content

Topics to be studied include:
- Essential terminology, tools, vocabulary and resolution associated with photography.
- Working knowledge of the concepts by completing a studio style photoshoot and also create their first advert design.
- Basic image manipulation tools using required software.
- Creation of an impacting photographic composition.
- The ability to crop and manipulate photographs to enhance meaning.
- An introduction to layout and advert design.
Mode of Delivery
The course will be delivered through lectures, discussions and practical works which will be conducted in studio setting within and outside university premises.
