Course Description
Students will conduct practical based research on any communication design problem. The course will provide the opportunity for students to pursue a self-proposed and self- directed research in graphic design. Students adopt a professional approach by working through stages of the design process in graphic design.
Course Objectives
Students should be able to:
- Develop ways of working using methods such as: idea generation, the analysis of function, basic research skills, and creative problem solving.
- Use methods in specific projects to explore ideas and image development in design for communication within a collaborative studio environment.
Course Content
- Based both in the studio and the field, the course will be based on a series of short projects involving visual, contextual and personal research created outside the studio and leading to the development of studio-based work.
- Research methods such as gathering and organizing research material and developing that material into project-based work together with recognizing experimentation with Process as a form of practice-based research.
- Undertaking a collaborative project to develop their communication and research skills.
- The practical results arising from the projects need not take the form of finished artwork but should rather be seen as informing the process of what can be developed in the longer term, in this way contributing to expanding students’ art practice.
Mode of Delivery
The course will be delivered through lectures, discussions and practical works which will be conducted in studio setting within and outside university premises.
