On Friday, February 8th, 2024, the highly anticipated talk show “Insight into the Retail Fashion Production Industry” was held for the Fashion Design Students at AUCDT’s Conference Room. The event was chaired by our President, Professor Emmanuel A. Asante, who introduced the speaker for the show, Ms. Sarah Romartinez, a British Fashion Designer.
Sarah operates in both the production and retail aspects of her line of work and is currently working as a leading designer at Indochine specializing in denim and producing garments for worldwide retail.
In delivering her presentation, Ms. Sarah Romartinez started with a step-by-step design process to production. There is always the need to design a year to six months ahead. You must start looking for trends a year in advance to plan design accordingly for seasons and occasions. Design inspiration could be gathered from Vogue Runway, Social Media (Instagram and Tiktok), Trend predictions like WGSN, Trendalytics, Tagwalk, and Pantone.
She spoke about Mood Board Sketching where all gathered ideas are put together and the use of computer-aided design software like Photoshop and Illustrator as important tools in the fashion industry.
These programs help in sketching and styling. Other topics she treated are Sourcing fabrics, Global Product Matrix, Sustainability Strategy, Tech Park, Digital Technology(3D CADS), Pattern Making, Sign-off / Range Builder, Sample Development, Garment Factory Production, Quality Control and Packaging, Exportation, product display in stores and online.
Thank you Ms. Sarah Romartinez for inspiring our students with such a wonderful presentation.
The training process ended with a question-and-answer time.
