On the 21st of February 2024, AsanSka University College of Design and Technology hosted students from the Fashion Design and Textiles Department of Koforidua Technical University. The visit was to give a unique opportunity for the students to gain practical experience and to foster a stronger relationship between the two institutions.
The President of AUCDT, Prof. Emmanuel A. Asante, warmly welcomed the students and expressed his excitement at the prospect of KTU students gaining experience and exploring the fashion industry under the auspices of AUCDT. He also reminded them that they now carry the responsibility of holding the fort for Ghana’s future, as his generation has fulfilled their part.
During the event, Erica Tengan, briefed the audience about the story of AUCDT by touching on its inception, mission and vision statement, the governing council, management structure and programmes offered.
The Master of Ceremonies for the day, Ms. Mary Takyi, then introduced the keynote speaker, Mrs. Florence Kushitor, a lecturer in the Fashion Design Department at AUCDT. She gave an in-depth presentation on Pattern Grading by providing insight on what pattern grading is, the different types of pattern grading, the benefits of pattern grading, and the standardized rules used in pattern grading.
The session concluded with an interactive question and answer segment, allowing students to delve deeper into the subject.
Following the lecture, the students were then treated to a tour of AUCDT’s fashion studios where they had the opportunity to explore the setup of the studios and inspect various displays of designs and jewellery made by our students and it was led by Miss Florence Boakyewaa. The visit proved to be a remarkable opportunity for the students to gain practical industry experience under the tutelage of AUCDT’s experienced instructors.
At the end of the visit, the students expressed their gratitude to AUCDT for providing them with the opportunity to gain invaluable experience. The successful collaboration and exchange of knowledge between the two institutions were made possible through the efforts of Prof. John Owusu, the Vice Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University (KTU), Prof. Emmanuel Amankwah Asante (President of Asanska University College of Design and Technology, AUCDT) and staff of both institutions.
