Course Description

This course seeks to train students to acquire the prerequisite hands-on-skills in Jewellery Design for them to become Bench Jewellers after ONE ACADEMIC YEAR.

Course Objectives

The course intends to:

  1. Produce technologically trained graduants with the requisite knowledge and skills in jewellery production.
  2. Give students the opportunity to explore and unearth their creative prowess in jewellery design as a source of employment.

 

Course Content

Topics to be covered include:

  1. Introduction to tools, equipment and types of machinery and their uses in jewellery production
  2. Workshop Safety Practices
  3. Introduction to precious metals and alloying with emphasis on
  4. Melting, Annealing, Pickling
  5. Milling, Drawing (Wires/sheet metal)
  6. Chain (weaving)
  7. Soldering
  8. Chain (soldered)
  9. Drilling, Piercing, Filing and Sanding
  10. Metal forming: (Basic shapes) bangles
  11. Rings
  12. Basics in Stone setting
  13. Final finish
  14. Testing of metals

Mode of Delivery

The course will be delivered through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practical activities.
