Course Description
This course seeks to train students to acquire the prerequisite hands-on-skills in Jewellery Design for them to become Bench Jewellers after ONE ACADEMIC YEAR.
Course Objectives
The course intends to:
- Produce technologically trained graduants with the requisite knowledge and skills in jewellery production.
- Give students the opportunity to explore and unearth their creative prowess in jewellery design as a source of employment.
Course Content
Topics to be covered include:
- Introduction to tools, equipment and types of machinery and their uses in jewellery production
- Workshop Safety Practices
- Introduction to precious metals and alloying with emphasis on
- Melting, Annealing, Pickling
- Milling, Drawing (Wires/sheet metal)
- Chain (weaving)
- Soldering
- Chain (soldered)
- Drilling, Piercing, Filing and Sanding
- Metal forming: (Basic shapes) bangles
- Rings
- Basics in Stone setting
- Final finish
- Testing of metals
Mode of Delivery
The course will be delivered through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practical activities.
