Course Description

This course aims at equipping the student with the concept of marketing. Emphasis will be placed on introducing the student to the knowledge and skills in marketing, basic technicalities and process of marketing goods and services, in relation to fashion products. Students will undertake practical marketing processes as pertains in the fashion and textile industry.

Duration: 6 Months

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the concept of marketing and its application to fashion goods and services.
  • Discuss the role and importance of effective marketing in the fashion industry.
  • Participate effectively in the roles of marketing in the fashion industry.

Topics to be covered in this course will include:

  • Definition and explanation of marketing
  • Role of marketing in an organisation
  • Concept of marketing and its application.
  • Customers, their needs, how these needs are determined and satisfied.
  • Identification of products and services that customer need.
  • Pricing of goods and record keeping.
  • Advertising, marketing/customer behaviour.
  • Packaging of new and existing fashion products.
  • How to conduct research into various marketing topics, prepare reports and do presentations.
  • Participation in marketing activities in an organisation.

Mode of Delivery

This will include lectures, demonstrations, class exercises and field trips.
