This course will equip the students with the knowledge and practical skills in art forms that are generally referred to as fashion illustration.

Course Description

This course will equip the students with the knowledge and practical skills in art forms that are generally referred to as fashion illustration. It will also acquaint the student with the use of Photoshop and other computer drawing software for creating fashion/textile design and illustration activities.

Duration: 6 Months

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Discover and demonstrate the art of freehand and technical drawing as a technique for creating vibrant and original fashion designs
  • Demonstrate massive skills in drawing and exploration of the human figure with freehand
  • Identify, create and practicalize or illustrate various garment styles.
  • Create original fashionable designs.
  • Use investigative instruments to design new garments.
  • Develop designs using Adobe Photoshop and other software programmes for fashion design and illustration activities.

Course Content

Topics to be covered in this course will include:

  • The realistic 8-length head proportion
  • The 10-length head figure proportions ideal for stylised fashion croquis
  • Terminologies regularly used to describe fashion figures (e.g., angle or angle lines, apex, balance line, draping or sewing guidelines, dynamic figure, high hip, overlap)
  • Tools, materials and techniques for fashion illustration
  • Identification and illustration of different garment categories
  • Exploration of clothing various styles on the human figure in a range of poses
  • Practical drawing and illustrating of various original patterns.
  • Creation and evaluation of a variety of fashion designs.
  • Deepen knowledge and skills in the use of various media including computer software facilities for designing and fashion illustration purposes.
  • Evaluation and appreciation of fashion designs.

Mode of Delivery

This course will be implemented through lectures, discussions, and discussions, and practical exercises. There will also be research topics and assignments to be delivered by students on the given dates.
